From strategy consulting to ethical jewellery : a career led by a quest for meaning
JEM, short for Jewellery Ethically Minded, is the first French jewellery house dedicated to ethical and sustainable luxury. Founded by Dorothée Contour, JEM embodies a new vision of jewellery : modern, minimalist, and deeply conscious.
The brand pioneers the use of Fairmined-certified gold and lab-grown diamonds, later adding responsibly sourced pearls and nacre from Fiji. JEM values craftsmanship and promotes the heritage of French jewellery-making.
Its aesthetic blends purity, timelessness, and strength, aiming to resonate with diverse audiences while telling meaningful stories. Each piece is designed to carry symbolic power and emotional significance. The brand also collaborates with artists and designers to enrich its creative direction.
JEM redefines preciousness not just through materials, but through intention and values. It stands today as a leading voice in sustainable, responsible fine jewellery in France.
About Dorothée Contour
Dorothée Contour was born in 1982 in Paris into a culturally rich family, where she developed a strong appreciation for beauty, art, and social awareness. Her passion for societal change emerged early, shaping her academic path. Although drawn to social sciences and history, she pursued a business education at HEC, graduating in 2006.
During her studies, she became involved in fair trade and was deeply influenced by a meeting with the founder of Alter Eco. This encounter sparked her vision of redefining business as a tool for social and environmental good. She believes companies should integrate social values into their business models.
After a stint in strategy consulting, she joined the Alliance for Responsible Mining in 2010 and became passionate about ethical gold sourcing. This led to her involvement in launching the Fairmined label. In 2016, she took full leadership of JEM, a brand she co-founded, committed to ethical and sustainable jewelry.
