DESCRIPTION:We are very pleased to invite you to the first WIB International Women’s Day Celebration at Golf-Club Grand-Ducal from 12.00 pm to 1.45 pm on March 3rd\, 2025. \n\n\n\nOn this occasion\, we will welcome  \n\n\n\nMinister Yuriko Backes \n\n\n\n Minister of Defence \n\n\n\nMinister for Mobility and Public Works \n\n\n\nMinister for Gender Equality and Diversity \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nfor an open discussion on the occasion of \n\n\n\nthe International Women’s Day \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nAbout Minister Yuriko Backes \n\n\n\nAfter graduating with an International Baccalaureate from the Canadian Academy International School in Kobe in 1989\, Yuriko Backes obtained a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations from the London School of Economics and Political Science in 1992. She studied at the School of Oriental and African Studies in London\, earning a Masters in Japanese Studies in 1993. Yuriko Backes later obtained a second Master’s degree in European Political and Administrative Studies from the College of Europe in Bruges in 1994. \n\n\n\nYuriko Backes began her professional career in 1994 as a Chargée de mission at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and has held various posts\, including at the Luxembourg Permanent Representation to the United Nations in New York\, the Luxembourg Permanent Representation to the Western European Union in Brussels and the Luxembourg Embassy in Japan. \n\n\n\nAttached to the International Economic Relations and European Affairs Directorate of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Luxembourg\, she was sworn in as a civil servant in 2001. \n\n\n\nThe career diplomat was then seconded to Luxembourg’s Permanent Representation to the European Union in Brussels between 2001 and 2006. \n\n\n\nShe continued her diplomatic career as Deputy Head of Mission at the Luxembourg Embassy in Japan between 2006 and 2008 and Deputy Director of the International Economic Relations Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Luxembourg between 2008 and 2010. \n\n\n\nBetween 2010 and 2016\, Yuriko Backes was a diplomatic adviser and Sherpa to Luxembourg Prime Ministers Jean-Claude Juncker and Xavier Bettel. \n\n\n\nFrom 2016 to 2020\, she served as the European Commission’s representative in Luxembourg. \n\n\n\nFrom June 2020 until her entry into government\, she served as Marshal of the Grand Ducal Court. On 5 January 2022\, Yuriko Backes joined the coalition government between DP\, LSAP and déi Gréng as Finance Minister. \n\n\n\nFollowing the legislative elections of October 2023\, Yuriko Backes was appointed Minister of Defence\, Minister for Mobility and Public Works and Minister for Gender Equality and Diversity in the coalition government between the Christian Social Party (CSV) and the Democratic Party (DP). \n\n\n\nAs all our profits go to charities\, no refund will be proposed in case of cancellation.  \n\n\n\nWIB Get Together lunches are members only events. In 2011\, they launched the fashion brand vol(t)age. The adventure began with the creation of elegant and luxurious silk and velvet scarves and went on with smart-shirts\, their famous best seller t-shirts dans sweatshirts with slogans. \n\n\n\nvol(t)age is a brand that combines elegance\, luxury\, humour and comfort. vol(t)age’s signature fabrics include silk\, velvet\, bouclé\, tweed\, lace and cotton.
